Got to agree with this.
Got to disagree with this. A diploma does NOT mean you’ve stopped learning. It means you’ve completed enough classes to have a solid foundation to continue to learn. Especially if you’ve got a PhD, in which you are often required to continue learning - it’s called a post-grad. And you have to have a diploma to do some critical research, then have people disagree, then have your learning expanded further by responding to that criticism…
Now that doesn’t mean you need a diploma in order to learn. That’s absolutely false. But neither does that mean you should dismiss diplomas out of hand. I want to get a diploma because it is a signal that I also spent four+ years doing what I absolutely would love to do, that is learn in a supportive environment.
Then, I can take that diploma and get the job I want, namely helping people and learning from them in sustainable community building NGOs.
So paper doesn’t define. But neither does that mean you should reject it.
